Mandaric talks,
"too much"
THE
CUNNING FOX - LEICESTER CITY WEBZINE - 06.07.2008
Leicester City fans always likes to be informed, but Milan
Mandaric has a bad habit, he talks too much about football
management affairs. It's a sin. He must let the manager
do the "footy talking".
Mandaric
is talking about instant returns, promotions and Premier League
dreams. He makes the deals and he runs the show single handed.
This is the feeling I have after following Leicester City's new
chairman closely since he took over the club. It doesn't matter
if it is Kelly, Worthington, Allen, Megson, Holloway or Pearson.
All of the people he has appointed are men either out of work,
or people looking for that great oppertunity. They are not
strong enough to give Mandaric a challenge, like he had with
Harry Redknapp at Portsmouth.
While Nigel Pearson (City's new manager) tries to keep a
realistic approach and not talk about new signings or to draw
conclutions about things that are not confirmed, it looks again
as if Mandaric pulls all the strings and makes his own agenda.
Leicester City must let the club manager speak about football affairs and the long term plans must be build on
realism. So far three new players have been signed, two on free
transfers and one for a nominal fee belived to be in the region
of £ 100 000.
There are rumours that a new Bulgarian defender could be joining
for a fee just below £ 1 million. Ok, we might have a good squad
of young players, but with Kisnorbo out in the start of the
season and Stearman, McAuley and Hume all gone, let's be
realistic.
Talks about instant promotions and new signings should be
something the manager gives a view on and if you now the quality
of City's squad at the moment, a straight promotion is not
something to talk about at this time.
Leeds United, a club with a massive fan base and a proud
history, struggled last season. Leeds made it to the
play-off final. They had it in their pockets, but Doncaster
Rovers was the better team that day and they defeated the
giants. Nottingham Forest used a few seasons to rebuild to get
in position, and is back in the Championship now.
The way Mandaric is talking makes people stressed and the
new manager will, if City get a bad start, feel the pressure
heavilly. The way forward is long term and nothing else. The way
Mandaric is talking makes it difficult to understand how on
earth Leicester City will be able to build a long term future.
Mandaric is an impatient man, and that doesn't suit Leicester
City at the moment. He is also in a bad mood, since his
investment in this football club is something he at this moment
probably regrets. This is a stress factor that could stop
progress and again short term decissions could damage the long
term effects.
The three new players, signed by Pearson, looks ok. They might
have something to offer, but don't believe they will set the
World on fire. They are signed from MK Dons, Bury and Cambridge
United. They all need time to fit in, especially Lloyd Dyer who
failed to make an impact at WBA and had to play in lower leagues
to get his football career going again.
It's time to wake up. Leicester City might be a great club with
a huge fanbase, but they have to sell to buy. Let's be honest
with each other, stand behind the team, no matter how bad they
play or if they are losing points to Hartlepool, Northampton,
Stockport and Brighton. City are in there with 23 other teams.
League 1 is here, City must battle hard to stay away from the
relegation zone and it will be a massive battle. Don't talk
about promotion.
The current squad of players don't know how to win two league
games in a row. The new men signed could be ok, but they are not
certainties in the team and they are not experienced from this
level of football.
It's time to let Nigel Pearson do the talking. City are down
there with Stockport, Hartlepool, Millwall and Northampton. We
will not be able to just walk straight back into the
Championship, it will be a massive and long battle to get back
up.
Football is sometimes a bit unfair, and players might get
injured, situations occure that you wouldn't imagine and all
those circumstances must be taken into consideration before you
make your decissions.
Please for now, let Nigel Pearson talk about how Leicester City
FC will be going forward, we have heard your stories before
Mandaric. City needs a supportive chairman, that stands a bit in
the back and let's the "footy men" talk about "footy".
City have since Martin O'Neill left the club, eight years ago,
experienced a down hill ride difficult to handle.
City won the League Cup, we played in Europe and with bad
decissions done in the board room, the club collapsed. We are
still alive and kicking, but the club now is a different one
than it was eight years ago.
City supporters are loyal and proud. They know how to suffer and
they like to be up there with the best. But at the moment,
Mandaric, you must wake up, look around you and be realistic
with your dreams. Your talk is not in line with the way you act
and it's difficult to understand your messages.
Leicester City is a club who needs a long term realistic plan,
not just hope, faith and empty words.
Mandaric must calm down, push for promotion, keep it to
yourself, because you either don't know the quality of your
players or you have no idea who you are up against. If you and
Nigel Pearson have a commen goal to get City promoted, that is
ok, but don't tell it to the press. If City get's back up, fine.
If you miss out, then sacking is not the way forward.
if City ends in the top half of League 1, that is no
catastrophy. If we go up, fantastic. But the squad at the moment
is not good enough to walk straight back up without competition.
There is a bit of time left before the season starts, but if you
look at the player material and compare it with other clubs in
this division, then if you have done a bit of "homework" you
will now that City's current squad doesn't frighten anyone.
City could have been favourites for promotion and by the
bookmakers we are. But those three who left was City three
best players last season, and if Joe Mattock moves on, then we
all know the answer.
Pearson has his hands full. We all hope for promotion, but that
shouldn't be a goal in itself when money are tight, players of
great potential looks elsewhere and those new faces must get a
chance to establish themselves.
Give people a chance Mandaric, and stay away from football
affairs.
