Happy days in Leicester
Norwegian fans on a
new trip to the "holy land"
THE CUNNING FOX,
01.11.2009
TCF and friends
had a great week in Leicester and were present at the games against
Derby and Crystal Palace. As always it was great pleasure to visit
the "holy land".
Two fantastic games, great atmosphere at The Walkers Stadium and as
always fantastic City fans, who are so friendly and the hospitallity
is great.
We visit a number of pubs and places such as The Globe, Local Hero
and Swan and Rushes are favourites. Especially the Swan and Rushes
in front of the game gives everything a special touch.
We often meet up with people from the London branch of the
supporters club and old memories comes back. A few of the London
foxes has great memories of former games in London, and this time a
certain FA Cup game against QPR in the 70's was mentioned as a
highlight.
Joe Waters scored twice in that game and everyone thought City had
found a new fantastic player in the young Irelander. We all know the
history and Waters never became a legend at City, but got that
status at his next club Grimsby.
Robbie Savage was also back in Leicester, this time with Derby. The
former fox played a good game for the Rams, and we also dined in the
same restaurant as Savage later in the evening, And then when I
switched on the Telly at Hotell, for the Sundey Match of the day
special, he was a guest in the studio.
Durng the week, we also had a trip to Leeds, watching the home team
play Norwich. Max Gradel made his Leeds debut and contributed well
when he came on in the 2nd half and was on the field when Leeds
scored the winner.
City fans might be a bit nostalgic about their favourites from the
70's, but to be honest, my first trip to Elland Road was like coming
straight back in to the 70's.
The stadium is "old fashioned" and of course a fantastic stadium,
but a ground in the old fashion way. Replicas from the 70's was all
over the club shop and it must difficult for players at Leeds to
always be compared with the fantastic team under former City player,
Don Revie.
Former foxes has been trusted at Elland Road, with Don Revie, Allan
Clarke, Dennis Wise, Gary McAllister and Simon Grayson all persons
who are or have been in charge of Leeds United.
Some of their more mature fans, has also been stuck in the 70's. One
guy shouted throug the whole game about "Killing the Canaries" and
if he had been allowed he would have shot them all. The guy left
before the game was finished and missed the final goal that sealed
the win for Grayson's men.
The highlight of the trip was of course Paul Gallagher's fantastic
2nd goal and we hope that the former Blackburn man will be a great
asset for Pearson and his team for the rest of the season. |
