THE CUNNING FOX - LEICESTER CITY NEWS - 25.05.2010

A season of joy and hope, focus on future

This season has been a clear improvement and Nigel Pearson has taken this group of players a step in the right direction. Next season will be as open as ever and hopefully the squad will be strengthened in a way that we can take the final step and get us in to the Premier Leauge

The fact that teams like Burnley, Hull and Portsmouth are coming down, makes it even more interesting to be a club like Leicester City. None of the relegated teams managed to get above the 30 point mark. They are all clubs that will struggle with their financial situation and be more or less depended on the players they have. They might also have to sell most of their best players.

City has gone from strength to strength, and their final performance of the season away to Cardiff in the play-off's shows that we can be a handfull for any team next season. The key to a straight promotion is how Nigel Pearson manage to bring in what's needed to get there.

With 46 games to play in the season, it is a big need to have a quality squad. So how do we build that ?

Pearson has done well with players such as Berner, Brown, Fryatt and Howard out for long periods. That shows that the squad has quality. A number of players are in their 30's but should still manage to do well next season.

Weale, Wellens, Voughan, Spearing, Solano, Gallagher, McGivern, Neilsson, Kermorgant, Waghorn and N'Guessan are all new this season, and that shows really that a number of new players were needed to take the step up in the play-off zone.

Pearson has managed to get a strong force with these new faces mixed with the once that survived after last years promotion. There will be a mix of loan signings and new transfers also this season, but hopefully not too many changes are needed.

Players such as Weale, King and Hobbs can be targets for clubs in the Premier League, Oakley, Campbell, Wesolowski can be on the way out. So if Pearson decides to cash in on some of the youngsters, he must be clever in his signings.

We will follow up on all the transfer rumours and news during the summer.
