THE CUNNING FOX - LEICESTER CITY NEWS - 20.07.2010

Pre-season report

City are back from their pre-season tour to Slovenia. A number of positives to take out of the trip and a chance for players to give a good impression

DJ Campbell and Nicky Adams both grabbed the headlines. Both players looked as if they would leave the club this summer with moves to Blackpool and Brentford lined up, but now it looks as if both players can have a City future.

Michael Morrison left the right back position open when he now looks as the ideal partner to Jack Hobbs with Miguel Vitor and Aleksandar Tunchev also competing for the central defence positions.

Nicky Adams was given a chance to play at right-back and could get a chance in this position. With a former England international full back in Chris Powell to learn from it can be a new and great challenge for Adams.

DJ Campbell has over the past two seasons on loan at Blackpool and Derby shown that he is a proven goalscorer. He impressed in his City return in Slovenia and scored in both games.

Pre-season is something we all have to look at as a preperation phase and so far after two games there is not much to look at in terms playing style, positions, system and so on.

A good game against Rotherham will finally give a number of answers to how Sousa will play.

If the season had started today, TCF is uncertain in which type of system City should play but it would either a plain 4-4-2 or a 4-3-3. The strongest team at this moment would be

1. Weale - He is a certainty and Logan is and will be number 2

2. Adams - A fresh start as right back could suit him, Neilson is 2nd choice
3. Berner - Berner looked good last season but will be under pressure from Tom Kennedy
4. Morrison - His best position is in the centre. Vitor challenge for a place
5. Hobbs - He is our best defender and one of my first players to pick in the team

6. Wellens - The central midfield dynamo is important
7. N'Guessan - Great offensive skills and a player who also can defend
8. King - The best player at the club and one with a bright future
11. Dyer - A left sided attacking style that the team needs

9. Fryatt - Proven goalscorer with the skills to shoot Leicester to promotion next season
10. Howard - Still important to have a player with hight, alternative would be DJ Campbell in a more attacking style
